U-Blog 3

Today an assignment was due that took us through different articles and test to familiarize ourselves with the way we prefer to learn and make intelligent decisions. My whole life I have always been a person that liked to do something physical instead of being told what to do. I have always thought making sure the person you are teaching has to do it themselves because the physically see the steps and will most often remember them easier in the future. After taking the test I saw the proof that I am a visual learner. It has helped me learn different activities easier especially at work.

  1. I agree that when dealing with technology it is best to "go through the motions" vs just reading how to do something. Because of graphical interfaces I believe it is easier to remember a process by performing it, if nothing else the next time you do it your brain may recognize some steps if you don't recall them all.

  3. I feel you. Thats exactly how I am, a more hands on visual style learner. Learning and remebering are two different things and until you physically go through the process of what you learned, you dont know how to do it, you just heard how to do it or saw how to do it. That's why experience and these internships are so vital while we are still going through our higher education process. Because after we graduate employers do not care about an expensive piece of paper (Degree). They just want to know what you can do and can you prove it to me.

  4. I agree as well, I am visual learner myself! And I know that I learn quicker If I do things instead of reading or someone else trying to explain to me. But yet, there are some things I learn quickly by reading or an explanation such as my accounting class, and sometimes at work as well. From my perspective, everyone has little bit of everything inside of them that makes easier to manipulate different tasks!

  5. I always thought I would be a person who had to do something to learn as well. However, in my case the test confirmed my thoughts as it classified me a kinesthetic and tactile learner. I like to know what I am about to do and would much rather read it from a sheet than have someone tell me aloud. I think it was very interesting that you might not be able to predict your learning style until fully understanding the concepts of all learning styles.

  6. I agree with pretty much everyone else. I'm definitely a physical learner vs. a visual or aural learner. I feel that you need to really do something in order to learn it. It's like basketball, you can't read about it and go and do it. You need to practice and get the muscle memory down by repitition.

  7. Assessing design, implement, and evaluate. I believed that theses are common sense things to do when teaching anyone anything. I have been teaching swimming lessons for about 5 years. And I remember during our training out instructor emphasis was assessing your students and understanding that all your students will not learn at the same rate or the same way. I agree with you Seth the learning model is very helpful and pretty darn cool.
